Bigcartel vs Opencart vs Everything Else
At Double Dragon Studios I am always trying to find the best content management system to use. It is pretty nerdy how I get so excited sometimes when something new comes out. So far in doing all my research I have found two e-commerce carts that I love. Those are Bigcartel and Opencart
Bigcartel
website: bigcartel.com
price
- $10 a month for up to 25 products and 3 images per product
- $20 a month for up to 100 products and 5 images per product
ease of use
- very easy system to manage and connects with your paypal account
advantages
- Use your own domain
- Fairly advanced coupon codes
- Users don’t need to sign up to check out
disadvantages
- poor SEO control of meta tags
- can only accept paypal and no other payment gateways
- can’t do related products on product page, only newest and best selling
- doesn’t have any extensions you can buy to make the site better
Opencart
website: opencart.com
price
- Free
ease of use
- fairly easy system to manage but has more options which may not be important
advantages
- Use your own domain
- Avanced coupon code
- Different payment gateways more then paypal
- Good SEO (with extensions)
- The ability to use extensions to make the site better
disadvantages
- A little harder to manage because there is more it can do
- Harder to code, the time to code opencart is twice as long as bigcartel because it is more complicated of a system.
Everything Else
Magento – Just way to complicated. I felt like its backend was confusing. Even though it could do tons of stuff it was time consuming to figure everything out and I didn’t want to leave a site that was hard to figure out in the hands of a client.
Storenvy – It was easy to design for but ultimately it wasn’t as good as everything else. Especially since you couldn’t use your own domain it just wasn’t a cart I wanted to deal with.
Woocommerce – I checked it out and it looks like it is setup pretty well. They have a cool one page checkout and multiple payment gateways I just really need some time to look into it more before I develop on it.
I’ve done my research and found some solid e-commerce carts that will fit anyone’s project. I am always looking out for new e-commerce carts so if there is something else you are interested in let me know.
